What is PTSD?
PTSD is a mental health condition that is characterised by anxiety, depression, nightmares and night terrors, and high alertness. The condition can severely impact an individual’s relationships, work, and ability to carry out daily activities. There are different types of PTSD including;
PTSD
PTSD is a mental health condition that is the result of experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event or circumstance. The condition develops soon after the event and can lead to a number of different symptoms including emotional dysregulation, nightmares, flashbacks, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, severe alertness or being easily startled, and feeling ‘detached’ from the world and others in it.
CPTSD
Complex-PTSD (PTSD) develops after an individual has experienced traumatic events for a prolonged period of time, such as abuse or interpersonal traumas. This can lead to problems with self esteem, emotional problems, mental health problems such as anxiety and depression, and the inability to form lasting, healthy relationships.
Late on-set PTSD
Late on-set PTSD is PTSD that develops sometimes months or years after an individual experienced the trauma that caused the condition.
